Approval for Industrial School April 30 1904

30 April 1904 – Under the Industrial and Reformatory Schools Act of 1865, Barambah is declared an Industrial school, Thompson is appointed the superintendent.
Although the reserve itself is gazetted as an Aboriginal reserve, the activities that take place on it are regarded as those of an industrial school. Under this Act, “any child born of an aboriginal or half-caste mother” is deemed to be a “neglected” child and is liable to be sent to a reformatory or industrial school. Some of the first removals are made under the provisions of this Act.
