1962 – The Electoral Act is amended. All Aboriginal people can now vote in Commonwealth elections and referendums, yet they are still denied full citizenship rights.
The Department of Education takes over the school from the Department of Aboriginal Affairs.

1965 – Queensland is the last state to pass legislation to enable Aboriginal people to vote with the Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders’ Act.
