Mothers Quarters at Cherbourg c1960

The dormitory is for single mothers with babies and young children. The women can leave the dormitory for short periods of time, to visit the hospital, go to the store, the pictures and dances, or to visit relatives in the Camp. However, they must get permission from the matron.

Notice on gate:
“No unauthorized person is allowed to enter these dormitories unless permission is granted from the Settlement Matron or Superintend.”
